Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is simple: I want to help each student achieve their goals with music. For some, that might mean learning a few Taylor Swift songs to play for fun. For others, it may be preparing for a university entrance audition. Whatever the goal, my job is to guide students toward success while keeping their love for music alive.
I’ve developed a curriculum that balances essential musical skills with the music students are most passionate about. By combining strong fundamentals with songs and styles they truly enjoy, students not only grow as musicians but also stay inspired and excited to come to lessons each week.
I organize lessons around four key areas: lines, chords, technique, and repertoire. Lines may include melodies, scales, and for advanced students, improvisation and soloing. Chords focus on rhythm, harmony, and accompaniment. Technique is a cornerstone of my teaching, since poor habits can lead to long-term struggles or even injuries. Instilling proper technique early helps students build confidence and longevity as players. Repertoire ties it all together by giving students music they love to play, ensuring practice feels rewarding and meaningful.
Above all, I love teaching guitar. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Watching students gain confidence—not just in their playing, but in themselves—is truly inspiring. As a lifelong student of music myself, I believe it’s essential to create not only skilled guitarists, but also well-rounded musicians and lifelong lovers of music.
